In general

After Arundathi and Panjamukki Anushkas women-centric flick Bhaagamathie finally hits the screen. Has this horror thriller film justified its genre? read further to know about it.

In brief

Anushka is an ex IAS who is been convicted in jail for a murder charge, she is been taken into custody by a group of CID officers in a haunted palace called Bhaagamathie. This secret interrogation takes place to find the truth behind statue thefts that happen regularly and the suspect is Jeyaram(water board minister).
Some haunted happenings take place inside the palace and Anushka gets possessed by the queen Bhaagamathie.
Why did she get possessed? What is Bhaagamathie's moto? Why did she murder? Was the minister convicted? falls the rest of the story.

Nailed

* Casting plays a vital role in this flick and all the characters have done their best to give an awesome output.

* More than 70% of the film is been made in low light, in spite of that visuals look crisper and the angles used are at their best.

* Music plays a major role in horror movies and in Bhaagamathie the music has been the soul. kudos to Thaman.

* The palace set looks so authentic and the miniature work on set properties are remarkable.

* The pre-climax and climax are the strongest positives which make us brisk and the twists surprise us completely.

Failed

* After witnessing Anushka in meaty roles in Arundathi and Baahubali her performance in this flick looked below par.

* More work could have been done in direction and screenplay to make it unpredictable and interesting.

* The same old horror templates like loud noises, flying clothes and dashing doors will test our patients all over the first half.

* Some cuts in the first half could have made the movie a better one.

On the whole

In spite of strong climax, Bhaagamathie falls flat due to its old template.

Rating - 2.5 / 5
